Explore flu trends across the U.S.

We’ve found that certain search terms are good indicators of flu activity. Google Flu Trends uses aggregated Google search data to estimate flu activity in your state up to two weeks faster than traditional systems.

I found this site and I think it’s useful to check up and see what is going on with flu in my area. When you site and think about how many people search google every day this project makes a lot of sense to me. Being that I have a child this will be useful in the future, I sure hope google keeps it going…

This week in Photography is a new podcast I have been listening to and if any of you know me I take a few photos with my Nikon so this podcast is right up my alley. Every week the guys go over basic tips and some more advanced techniques. They are a little different in the fact that they also offer video screen cast along with there audio poscasts.

The podcast starts off with weekly photography news and then they usually have an interview. As mentioned above they also drop some screen cast in between audio podcast.

Alex Lindsay and Scott Bourne are the hosts of the show and these guys are pro’s when it comes to digital media. Alex Lindsay is simply awesome and I really do value his opinion when it comes to equipment and techniques that he does.

Both Alex and Scott have great advice for photographers and if your new to photography you will fit right in with this podcast. They both keep you motovated to practice your skills with their flickr challange, don’t forget to check out there flickr group also.

Dr. Dean Ornish: The world now eats (and dies) like Americans

In a sobering 3-minute talk, Dr. Dean Ornish tracks the dramatic spread of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease around the globe — as people outside the US start to eat, live and die like Americans do. “This may be the first generation in which our kids live a shorter lifespan than we do,” Ornish says. The good news? These trends are preventable and even reversible through diet and exercise.

New Years Resolution

This year it’s my news years resolution, use my calendar and contact list all year! Yea, mister “I’m terrible with dates” is going to work on his calendar all year and if I forget to call my mom on her birthday this year I have no idea what else I can do…

I have a smart phone that I am using right now to keep a copy of my calendar with me at all time. I the future I think I am going to want to buy a new phone for my cell service so I don’t have to carry all my devices with me, one is enough.

I really like this phone because of the keyboard and how nice it works. I am wondering how the iPhone works and I would love to try one out. I think next week I might swing up to the apple store and play with one.

The idea of having one of these powerful devices with me at all time sure is awesome and I don’t think I will ever buy a regular (crappy) phone again.

Logging in and getting email is my favorite feature when I find a wifi hot spot, and I look forward to getting internet service in the future so I can send text messages also with a smart phone. I can’t stand clicking a button 3 and 4 times just for one letter. Having a full keyboard is a must have for me and I really love it!

If it were up to me I think I would just text, I really like text messaging and I think network providers should make text messaging a free service now. Charging for text messages is just a joke in my opinion and I think one company should step up an offer texting for free.

Smart phone are in wide use in Europe and around the world, the US is way behind in the area and I hope we weak up to the benefits of the technology of these new phones. They can make our life so much better!
